99 Bottles of beer of the wall ...

Darn it! I'm slipping .. into blog apathy.

At least my blog hasn't disappeared off the net ... What did happen to Stray Toaster?

[a slight pause is inserted here - for comic effect - as one of my colleagues across the office spectacularly spills his full glass of water over the entire desk and surrounding area]

Now, where was I? Oh, yes. Apologising for lack of posting. Well, it's hot: that's my excuse. Yes, I know it's only just started being hot .. but I'm going to stick to my flimsy excuse anyway.

As for news, I've just entertained the office with the Befunge programming language - which they'd somehow got to where they are without knowing about. In case you're wondering, try reading the Wikipedia pages or the Dictionary of Programming Languages. There's even a delightful JavaScript interpreter - so you can try it at home.

What to Befunge programs look like? Try this for size:

9::*\2*+00p0v"."0<
>310p0"," >"llaw eht no "v >#v_ ^
^_210p0"--:" v ,
: v " of beer" < :
- >"selttob"00g.^ < <
1 >00g1-#^_$" elttob erom enO" ^
>00g#^_$" selttob erom oN" ^
^_110p0",dnuora ti ssap ,nwod eno ekaT"^
^:-1_010p00g1-00pvv:-1g01_@#g00,*25<
^ <

just copy & paste it into the interpreter & away you go.

Take one down, pass it around ...

I am still somewhere. Due to an unfortunate event (one where the poeple who register my sites for me didn't pay their nominet registration fees, letting my domains spiral into suspension hell, where they languish still, teaching me that perhaps I should do it myself in future, so I did, got a new address, and will resurrect the old one and do an apache redirect when it returns, so now I handle my own DNS. Breathe.)

Ah, there was something else. Befunge is for wusses. You want to play with brainfuck. Which does what it says, I reckon.

Got where they are without knowing befunge? Ha, not real geeks. I amn't a geek and I know that.

Aha! Thanks for the 99 bottles site .. but, hang on .. there's one missing.

For real hardcore geek programming - why not try Whitespace?

Enjoy! ;^)

I wasn't aware of whitespace (and written in haskell, bane of my life, dumb procedural schlang) but I have had production code in erm, production which was a big file with one line. And it did loads. I used:

http://search.cpan.org/~dconway/Acme-Bleach-1.12/lib/Acme/Bleach.pm

ha!

Similarly, I had production code in with

http://search.cpan.org/~dconway/Acme-Bleach-1.12/lib/Acme/Morse.pm

What I wag I was. I am all reformed now, although I shall probably submit a whitespace 99 bottles script at some point over the next while, if the sun stops shining and my brane is more than a puddle.

Damn.

That'll teach me not to link to the proper site.
